Royal Bávaro is located in one of the most recognisable tourist enclaves of the Caribbean. A large-scale resort where climate, vegetation and the intensive use of outdoor spaces defined the true heart of the project. Inusual Studio’s intervention focuses on the enhancement of the pool area, understood not merely as a space of passage, but as the main stage of the guest experience.

The commission starts from a clear need: to update and give character to an outdoor area that had lost its identity over time. The challenge was not to add more elements, but to organise, qualify and give meaning to a heavily used space, exposed to the sun, to water and to a constant flow of people.

The proposal is built on an essential idea: to create light architecture able to generate shade, rhythm and permanence without competing with the tropical landscape. Pergolas, open structures and transitional elements organise the space and offer different ways of inhabiting it, from quiet contemplation to social gathering.

Materiality is chosen with a double criterion: resistance and warmth. Exterior-treated woods, technical fabrics, stone and natural finishes dialogue with the existing vegetation and water, generating a serene atmosphere coherent with its surroundings. Shade becomes one more material, as important as wood or paving, modulating the experience throughout the day.

The design does not seek prominence, but to accompany the real use of the space. Rest areas, clear routes and transition areas are integrated fluidly, allowing the guest to move without interruption between water, sun and shelter. Every gesture responds to a logic of comfort and durability, designed for a context of high operational demand.

Royal Bávaro is an exercise in restraint and precision. A project where design acts as a tool to improve the experience without altering the essence of the place. The intervention does not transform the resort through imposition, but through an understanding of its rhythm, its climate and the way it is lived.
